At sunrise, Twyla is in her dorm, recording her monster minute on her IBall about what is going on with her. Teenage boogeymonsters must complete a rite of passage to show they are ready to grow up. To do it, they must enter the dream world and conquer a Night Terror, a creature that haunts the dreamer with their worst nightmare. Twyla is usually great with dealing with nightmares, turning them into sweets dreams, she also uses her boogeyman powers to create books to read during her slumber. But in the previous day, her Night Terror, a scary monster bunny appeared in her dream. He tortured her with her worst nightmare: having to give up everything she loves to grow up and being forced to do a lot of work, such as meeting, replying scream-mails (emails), answering her calls on the iCoffin and public speaking constantly. Twyla tried to fight with her powers, but in the process, she accidentally ripped the wall of the dream world, now the bunny can enter the dreams of anyone at Monster High. Twyla finishes her monster minute and goes to sleep, but has a nightmare of her Night Terror telling her she can't run away from growing up forever.
The following night, Twyla is at mad science class, where she notices Draculaura, Clawdeen and Deuce are tired and falling asleep constantly. After waking up, Deuce mentions a "spooky bunny" in his dream. When Twyla asks him about it, he responds he had nightmares with a monster bunny all day, and now he is exhausted. Clawdeen and Draculaura comment they had nightmares with the bunny too. Scared, Twyla realizes it’s her Night Terror who is haunting her friends' dreams. The bell screams, and Mr. Mothmanson dismisses the class, Twyla turns invisible with the shadows as the students leave the class. As Twyla turns visible again, Mothmanson sees something is up with Twyla. She tells him about the Boogey Monster rite of passage, and how she doesn't want to change herself into someone different while growing up. Mothmanson assures her she won't have to become someone else. As he changed from a caterpillar to a moth man growing up, he is still the same monster he was then, he just got better wings. Mothmanson predicts she can take on any challenges with good friends by her side, and this makes her feel better.
Twyla leaves class and finds Deuce, Clawdeen and Draculaura sleeping against the walls and lockers in the school's halls. They wake up after another nightmare with the monster bunny. Twyla belives she can defeat the Night Terror, but to do it, she has to enter her friends' dreams and asks them if that is okay for them. they agree. At sunrise, Deuce, Clawdeen and Draculaura go to sleep. Twyla is scared she will mess up. Twyla lays on her bed and sleeps to enter the dream world. When Twyla opens her eyes in the dream world, she finds herself in Draculaura's dream. The latter is telling jokes in stage but no one laughs, showing Draculaura's worst nightmare is making a bad performance. The Night Terror scares Twyla, then boos at Draculaura's performance. Twyla tries to catch the bunny, but he teleports to different chairs. Twyla uses her powers to make the Night Terror appear in front of her, which seems to work, but then he multiplies into many, then tells Twyla to say goodbye to what she loves to grow up. The Night Terror turns back into just one and opens a portal to another dream, so Twyla follows him.
Twyla enters Deuce's dream. He is baking spookies for a contest, but he has burned them, showing his worst nightmare is becoming a loser and not a winner like gorgons are supposed to be. When finding her Night Terror, she tries to attack with her powers, but he creates many ICoffins with scream-mails that surround Twyla. He claims this is part of growing up, while laughing maliciously, he opens another portal and leaves. Twyla uses her powers to create a living book that chases the ICoffins away. Twyla enters the portal and finds herself in Clawdeen's dream. She is in her human form at home with Apollo and a human Clawd. They are talking about being human and doing human things, Clawdeen wants to find Monster High, but the bunny controls her like she is a puppet and makes her say she is not a monster, showing Clawdeen's worst nightmare is never becoming a monster again. The Night Terror confronts Twyla and tells her that she needs to complete the rite of passage and defeat him to save her friends. He laughs maliciously, which bothers Twyla's hearing and she runs away. Clawdeen is free from the bunny's control and sees Twyla running through the portal. Twyla enters back in Deuce's dream and sits down scared, Draculaura and Clawdeen enter the portals and sit with her in Deuce's dream, he also joins them to check on her.
Twyla claims her powers aren't working, but Deuce saw use her dream manipulation power, which means her powers are working, but something is getting in Twyla's way. She confesses she is scared that, by completing the rite of passage and growing up, she has to change who she is and give up everything she loves. Draculaura assures her they will be with her, Clawdeen offers they can help her defeat her Night Terror, which Twyla accepts. Clawdeen just worries she is a human in the dream world and can't fight, but Twyla uses her powers to turn her back into a werewolf, to the latter's happiness. So the four teenagers enter the portal together. They find themselves in the dream world, where they see the Night Terror, who seems to not notice them. The teenagers try to take him by surprise, but he turns his head to them and screams, which bothers Twyla. Draculaura attacks him her magic, and discovers that her witch spells are stronger in the dream world. The Night Terror runs away, Clawdeen chases him and discovers she can float and walk on the ceilings in the dream qorld. She manages to catch the bunny and Deuce uses his stone glare on him, discovering his stone glare turns things into slime instead of stone in the dream world, which makes the bunny slips from Clawdeen's arms. The Night Terror growns huge in size and traps Clawdeen, Draculaura and Deuce in a cage. He demands Twyla has to face growing up and give up what she loves, and claiming all grown ups in her life had grew up.
But then Twyla remembers what Mr. Mothmanson said to her about growing up. She creates wings with her pwers and flies in the air. She finally realizes she can still be who she wants to be when she grows up. No longer afraid, Twyla turns the nightmare into a sweet dream and transforms the Night Terror into a small and sweet dust bunny. He actually likes his new self and claims Twyla has officially completed the rite of passage, and her friends cheer for her. The following night, Twyla goes to mad science class and sits with Deuce, Clawdeen and Draculaura. They are finally sleeping well thanks to her. After she transformed her Night Terror into something friendly, he is now her friend and pet and she named him Dustin. Twyla is finishing her monster minute on her IBall, she can see she doesn't have to change herself to grow up, she wants to find a job where she can read history books, maybe becoming a history teacher.
