To collect Wordscapes animals, you need to unlock Wildlife Eggs. These can be unlocked with Heart Gems you get by completing levels and doing Wildlife activities. There are currently six different types of Eggs in Wordscapes which offer a unique set of animals to be found. The regular eggs cost 850 Heart Gems and the shiny eggs cost 550 Heart Gems....
Focusing strictly on one egg at a time isn't really necessary with how easy it's become to earn gems quickly; an even distribution between yellow (hippo) and white (giraffe) with a little bit of blue (anteater) thrown in is more than good enough.
