Apr 12, 2021 · The mid-section of the season drags a bit when it feels like “Spy City” has a few too many characters and subplots around episode three, but it recovers nicely about halfway through Episode 4 and then barrels through to an ending that answers most of the questions of the season while finding an elegiac note to hit at the same time.

Apr 14, 2021 · The finale of “Spy City” is bookended by Fielding sarcastically saying, “I thought we were fighting for our values,” and a concluding freeze frame that transitions from color to black and white; perhaps this is meant to be sobering, but it really reads as cynical.
Much of the action in Spy City takes place around the Berlin Wall and in the four allied zones occupied by the US, UK, France and the Soviet Union. The real wall was initially a mesh of barbed wire and concrete erected in East Berlin on August 13, 1961 with improvised barriers like lampposts and tramlines.
Unless, of course, everything ties together in the end, but it feels at this point that the ending the show is building towards will be convoluted at best. Then again, spy dramas are often convoluted in the end — perhaps that’s the nature of spycraft.

May 21, 2021 · The conclusion to the adventures of Fielding Scott is rather underwhelming on Spy City Season 1 Episode 6, “The Wall.” Scott murders Hoff and gets revenge for Severine’s death. He also uncovers a grand conspiracy. But he, especially he, cannot stop the Berlin Wall from going up.
