There are a number of factors in deciding where we put our cameras. We can't simply nail-up a camera wherever we like. Network Rail don't take kindly to people installing their own equipment on their property without permission. Firstly, we need someone willing to host the camera, who has the required view from their property and a suitable standar...

In short, we can't... because like most websites, we only have access to the Open Datafeeds. The creator of RTT does commercial IT work which means he gets access to the rail-industry-only feeds which the rest of us don't. Allocations and consist data is being taken from that non-publicsource and included in the Realtime Trains website. We feel tha...

Reasons for not including sound are almost always to do with privacy. Our partners / camera hosts (eg a business, private individual or heritage railway) sometimes prefer not to have sound, which is their decision to make. This is usually because of the possibility of infringing the privacy of residents, visitors, staff or volunteers. Sometimes cam...

Our policy is and has always been NOT to have adverts on our own streams for Supporters / Subscribers. Exceptions are made for third-party "guest" cameras, not owned by Railcam, where we are only able to include them in Railcam with adverts. In such cases, the camera owner receives 100% of the ad revenue.

Sometimes it's just "Murphy's Law", but more often, there are good, scientific reasons to explain it. It's often assumed that because a stream struggles just as a train passes, that it must be the streaming server overloaded, but our servers have plenty of headroom to cope with spikes in demand and the problem is usually at the camera end or the vi...

  2. The cams are brilliant. Loads of cams in interesting locations. I can trainspot all day and never leave home. The diagrams are invaluable to track the progress of unusual trains so you can see them on the cams. Well worth the annual subscription. Great value for your money. The associated chat is something else.

  4. Mar 14, 2018 · Railcam also offers comprehensive live diagrams of almost the entire mainline network – clicking on a train’s headcode brings up a vast amount of detail, including operator details, and both booked and ‘real-time’ schedules. This feature combines live information from a Network Rail-sponsored feed with Railcam’s own custom mapping ...

  5. What other resources does Railcam offer? A few years ago, in response to a Government initiative for "open data", Network Rail made a suite of live rail data available to developers. A couple of us, with very little idea of what we were doing, had a tinker around with the train movement feeds and produced some of the first live signalling diagrams available outside the rail industry.

  7. The term "RIP OFF Britain" is as in my opinion a direct result of this type of behaviour and in this case if Railcam.UK are actually making a difference to preserving railways then state it upfront and people like me may be willing to contribute and if you are just a money making venture then people like me will not give you a cent, especially when it appears some the cameras do not actually ...
