I know this is probably an incredibly open ended question, but I've been wanting to get into game making for a while now, specifically working on an RPG, and GameMaker Studio 2 has been catching my eye.

- Chicory: A Colorful Tale (2021) Genre: Adventure. Chicory: A Colorful Tale is an adventure game like no other. The world has been wiped of all color and it's now up to you to figure out what happened—and, more importantly, recolor the world in your vision.
- Risk of Rain (2013) Genre: Action, Platformer, Roguelite. Risk of Rain is one of the earlier GameMaker success stories, and yet still remains one of the best GameMaker games made to date.
- Undertale (2015) Genre: RPG. Undertale is one of those indie games that's so unique in its execution that it ends up inspiring a cult legion of die-hard fans.
- Katana Zero (2019) Genre: Action, Platformer. Katana Zero is a style-heavy, action-oriented, hack-and-slash platformer in which you play as an assassin who can slow down time and predict the future.

- Making Our Character. The next step we want to take in our GameMaker Studio 2 tutorial is to make a character that the player can control. GMS 2 uses Objects as general containers for anything that has code attached to it.
- Getting Our Character to Move. The next step is to finally get into some code to make our character move around on the screen. This is going to be pretty simple code, so don’t worry.
- Creating a Challenge. The next step in our GameMaker Studio 2 tutorial is where things start getting really fun. Now that we can move, let’s make something that can hurt us, to provide a bit of a challenge for our players.
If you’re looking to rapidly prototype and develop 2D games and have the money for it, Game Maker Studio does well. It’s great if you are an artist wanting to explore game art and level design. If you are already an experienced programmer, I’d recommend Unity or Godot.
