- 1. Remove the molding where the base cabinets are going.
- 2. Calculate the measurements using the pro doweling kit.
- 3. For the front base, cut a slanted edge on two boards and combine the two.
- 4. Install the cabinets into each other and the wall.
- 5. Measure and cut a spot out for the outlets.
- 6. Cut a hole in the top of the cabinet and the countertop to run cords through for the electronics.
- 7. Screw the cabinets together and mount on the base.

- Entertainment Center Design. Before tackling a project like this it’s imperative to create a design. Without a design you’ll likely run into all kinds of problems and the finished project will end up looking like you made it in grade school.
- Modular Design – Build As Much As Possible In The Shop. After you have a design created you’ll also need to think about how you’ll build the cabinet(s).
- Build Your Own Cabinets with Pocket Screws. Traditional cabinet joinery can be complicated and require special power tools. Luckily there are alternative methods for building cabinets that are much simpler and only require reasonably priced tools.
- Install Modular Cabinet Sections On-Site. Once you’ve built all the cabinet box sections and face frames then it’s time to install them. It’s important to take time to establish a level layout line and figure out if there are any “high points” on the floor.
- Draw a Rough Sketch. Draw a sketch of your entertainment center with doors and drawers in the base section and adjustable shelving above. Purchase stock kitchen cabinets from any home improvement center.
- Screw Cabinets Together. First clamp the cabinets together and then secure them with screws. Attach a filler strip on each end to conceal the space between the cabinets and the wall.
- Cut Holes for Access to Electrical Outlets. Cut holes in the back and through the sides of the cabinet to allow access to the electrical outlets as well as the ability to run wires wherever you need them.
- Measure, Cut and Install the Countertop. Measure for the countertop and transfer to a sheet of ¾ inch plywood. Cut with a circular saw and attach to the base.

Then, I put them in place and added trim to sides and tops to give it that built-in look. For the sides, I bought some primed 1x4s and cut them to fit. Attached them with L-brackets.
