OCR A-Level Biology Module 2: Foundations in biology Transmission electron microscopes (TEMs) 1. Uses electromagnets to focus a beam of electrons, which is transmitted through a specimen. 2. The densest parts of the specimen absorb more electrons, which makes them look darker. 3. TEMs produce a high resolution image to see internal structure of

Describe how light microscopes work. 1. Lenses focus rays of light and magnify the view of a thin slice of specimen. 2. Different structures absorb different amounts and wavelengths of light. 3. Reflected light is transmitted to the observer via the objective lens and eyepiece. https://bit.ly/pmt-cc https://bit.ly/pmt-cc https://bit.ly/pmt-edu
All eukaryotic cells contain a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. A more detailed structure of cells called the ultrastructure can be obtained by using a microscope. Ultrastructure of eukaryotic cells: Nucleus is a double membrane called the envelope containing ~3000 nuclear pores.
The following process is used to calibrate an eyepiece graticule: Set up the microscope to the required magnification to view the sample. Place a stage graticule on the stage. Line up the two scales (the stage and eyepiece graticules) similar to the diagram.

The sections on tabulating data, significant figures, uncertainties, graphing, biological drawings, statistical tests in Biology, and subject specific vocabulary are particularly useful for students and could be printed as a student booklet by schools. The information in this document is correct, to the best of our knowledge as of October 2017.
May 31, 2022 · Optical microscopes are an invaluable tool for scientists as they allow for tissues, cells and organelles to be seen and studied. For example, the movement of chromosomes during mitosis can be observed using a microscope.
