Feb 29, 2024 · 2, 3 or 4-Day San Francisco Itinerary. The perfect trip to San Francisco is loaded with quirky neighborhoods, great food, and many opportunities to learn. Here is everything you should consider adding to your plan for visiting the city by the bay. Day 1 – Fisherman’s Wharf, Alcatraz & Chinatown Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf

Whether you’ve only got one day, one weekend, or an extended weekend, you can get to know this foggy city your own way, with my customizable San Francisco itinerary. One note: Most San Francisco hotels are located in the downtown, so I will use this area as the starting and ending point of each day.
- China Town & the Golden Gate Bridge. On the first day of your San Francisco itinerary, you have to see the city’s major highlights, namely China Town and the Golden Gate Bridge.
- the harbor & Alcatraz. As you probably know by now, San Francisco counts many districts and one of the most popular ones you should definitely add to your San Francisco itinerary is the coastline including the Marina District, Fisherman’s Warf, and Alcatraz!
- Mission, Twin Peaks & Haight-Ashbury. Mission District. One of the most colorful neighborhoods of San Francisco is without a doubt Mission District.
- Golden Gate Park. Surprisingly, San Francisco is home to quite some green areas and parks. The largest park you can find here, even larger than Central Park in New York, is the Golden Gate Park.
- Day 1-2: San Francisco. Welcome to the vibrant city of San Francisco! Kick off your 7 days in the Bay Area adventure by immersing yourself in the unique charm and iconic attractions of this bustling metropolis.
- Day 3: Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, and Muir Woods. On Day 3 you’ll cover off the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, a symbol of San Francisco, small-town charm and natural wonders as you explore Sausalito and Muir Woods.
- Day 4: San Jose and Silicon Valley. Discover the heart of technological innovation in San Jose, the capital of Silicon Valley. Dive into recent history with visits to the Tech Museum of Innovation or the Computer History Museum or visit the campuses of tech giants such as Google, Apple, or Facebook to witness the future in the making (not really, there’s high security).
- Day 5: Oakland and Berkeley. Cross the Bay Bridge (the not red one) from San Francisco to explore the vibrant cities of Oakland and Berkeley. You can get there from central San Francisco in 15 minutes by driving across the Bay Bridge, which offers stunning views along the way, or by taking the BARTS train.
- Cross The Golden Gate Bridge. Nothing can quite prepare you for the sight of the gleaming Golden Gate Bridge, which spans the mile-long strait connecting San Francisco to Marin County.
- Grab Lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf. Classic San Francisco destination, Fisherman’s Wharf has become something of a tourist trap in recent years. As the major jumping-off point for tours to Alcatraz, this bustling waterfront is often criticised for high prices and long queues.
- Wander Through Chinatown. San Francisco’s Chinatown is one of the best places in the city to wander, explore, and eat to your heart’s content! Leave space in your San Francisco itinerary for a meal here during your stay, and take advantage of the colourful shops and streets.
- Ride the Cable Cars. Did you even visit San Francisco if you didn’t ride one of the city’s iconic streetcars? They transport passengers across the city, all the way from Union Square up to the top of Nob Hill.
