Kensington and Stony Creek metroparks have "beaches" with cleaner water than Lake St Clair and they're both within reasonable driving time for a day trip to the beach. Unlike the Grosse Pointe residents-only parks, they're open to anyone but do require the purchase of daily or annual passes for entry.

GP is a great place to live and raise a family IMO. Anything you can’t get in GP can usually be found in SCS, Roseville, or Detroit. The parks are great and the lake access makes owning a boat, jet ski, or kayak a must. I would certainly choose GP over living in a suburban hell like Macomb Twp.
