Oh no, all the icons on the desktop have become blank! Restarting the computer doesn't change anything. How can I resolve this issue?
Don't worry, this issue is usually due to a software or application you installed causing an conflict with the file IconCache.db. Just follow the steps below to easily resolve this issue.
First, click the "Start" button and then click "Computer".
Now click "Organize" and then click "Folder and Search Options".
Next, please click "View", uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" and check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives". When done, click "OK". (If a warning window appears, click "Yes".)
Now click the "Start" button and then type %UserProfile%\Appdata\Local . Once done, press the Enter key on the keyboard.
Finally, right click on "IconCache.db" and then click "Delete". Restart your computer, and the issue will be resolved.
The icons do appear when navigating to "Desktop" under Users > (John ...) > Desktop. But the icons are NOT appearing on the actual Desktop. I have restarted my PC twice with no change.
Workaround. To work around this issue, use one of the following methods. Method 1: Remove all but 4 broken shortcuts from your desktop. Keep the number of broken shortcuts on your desktop to four or less. You might accomplish this by removing all but 4 of your most used shortcuts on the Desktop.
