    We welcome groups subject to a maximum of 20 people; larger groups may split (and will require a guide/leader in each group).     New College welcomes everyone and we want our disabled visitors to have a great experience with us. We offer free entry to companions or carers of disabled visitors. The disabled guests pays the reduced concession admission fee upon entry (carer/companion free).

    New College is a place of study all year round. Please therefore do not enter staircases, college rooms, or areas marked as private. The Cloisters, Hall, Chapel and Gardens are fully accessible (access to the hall is via a lift) but please be aware that our grounds have uneven surfaces.

    Dogs, except guide dogs, are not allowed in the college
    Please do not walk on the grass or picnic in the grounds

  2. On arrival please make yourself known to the Porters at the New College Lane entrance (March to October, 11am to 5pm) or at the Holywell Street Lodge at other times. Please do show your Oxford Alumni Card (see below).

  3. The main attraction on this little lane is the Bridge of Sighs which connects two parts of Hertford College. Apart from that there isn't really a lot to see but it's more about the atmosphere of Oxford and the sense of history all around.

  4. The current (1997) main college entrance is via a passage in the gothic Holywell Buildings (Gilbert Scott 1875, listed grade II) which extend along the south side of Holywell Street, parallel to the city wall to the south.

  5. Today, this is the main entrance to the college for tourists. If you head through the gate, you’ll find yourself in New College Lane, site of the Barn (a thatched building where a couple of fellows have their rooms), and the world-famous Bridge of Sighs. Garden Quad. Don’t be tempted to leave just yet, though!
