  2. London Heathrow airport is on the Piccadilly underground line, which takes you into central London in around 50 minutes. Trains run every few minutes, but not 24 hours. The Elizabeth underground line operates six trains per hour from Terminal 3, offering direct services to Shenfield and Abbey Wood.

    • Check-In Information. Security checks are understandably intensive at such a major airport, so allow plenty of time to check-in. You are advised to arrive at least 3 hours before your departure time for long-haul flights but you may need longer.
    • VAT Export Refund Information. You must present your goods and the VAT Export Refund Form to UK Customs at the airport before checking in your baggage. The line can be long, so be sure to allow plenty of extra time.
    • Hand Luggage Information. Usually, one piece of hand luggage is allowed on board (not including a ladies' purse/handbag or briefcase). The restrictions do differ depending on the airline, however, so be sure to consult the BAA Heathrow hand baggage restrictions.
    • Transfer Times to Departure Lounge Information. Heathrow's size means that you should allow ample time for walking between important places. Below is an estimate of walking and waiting times, but you should always err on the side of caution so you don't miss your flight!
