The name Moloko comes from the narcotic-filled milk drink, Moloko Plus, in the Anthony Burgess novel A Clockwork Orange, [3] based on the Russian for milk, "молоко" ("moloko"). The group signed to Echo Records and released their single "Where Is the What If the What Is in Why?"
No less than four motives for a story on Moloko: the band formed 30 years ago (1994), disbanded 20 years ago (2004), had their first big hit 25 years ago (1999) and within a few days Róisín Murphy, original Moloko singer, comes to Amsterdam for her 2024 solo tour. A perfect occasion for a look back at the career of Moloko.
Moloko was a trip-hop / electropop band from Sheffield, UK, founded by Mark Brydon (b. Sunderland, UK) and Róisín Murphy (b. Arklow, Ireland), in 1995. It debuted with the Moloko EP (May 1995, Echo) and later with Do You Like My Tight Sweater? (Sept 1995, Echo). Their latest and final studio album is Statues, released in 2003.
The band's name is taken from Anthony Burgess' classic novel 'A Clockwork Orange'. In the book Moloko means milk. One thing the band really like about their name is the fact that "people pronounce it differently all the time." In the book, Moloko is also the preferred method of narcotic indigestion.

" The Time Is Now " is a song by Irish-English electronica - pop duo Moloko, released as the lead single from their third album, Things to Make and Do (2000). Members Mark Brydon and Róisín Murphy conceived the song as an acoustic dance recording, not wanting to turn it into a loud, drum-heavy track, unlike much of their earlier work.
