Usually, fans want the fan-favorites to live which just shows how well done his “death” scene is. Everything about it is a master class in how you should write a death; Byakuya is a character that people genuinely care about so seeing him die would really resonate with the reader.
Since Chapter 1, he intended the final where Ichigo's and Rukia's kids (un-related) to meet the same way that they did and carry on the "theme". It's pretty apparent to me he kept bringing back nostalgia to Ichigo & Rukia to Kazui & Ichika (Death & Strawberry, "the blade has....").

This is where I believe Kubo foreshadowed the entire Zangetsu = Yhwach and the outcome of the final battle of bleach. OMZ(will call him this moving on) fills the battlefield with multiple false Zangetsu blades and hides the real zangetsu amongst them.
