Sep 8, 2023 · Although still a young man, John Thomson had already established himself as Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper and had made 188 appearances for the club following his debut against Cowdenbeath in November 1929. He was also Scotland’s No.1 goalkeeper by the time of his tragic and untimely death.
Greig started a petition to persuade the Scottish Football Association to induct John Thomson into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame; in November 2008, this was achieved. [ 9 ] [ 10 ] A local committee has also been set up called the John Thomson Memorial Committee.
