Edwin Earl Catmull (born March 31, 1945) is an American computer scientist and animator who served as the co-founder of Pixar and the President of Walt Disney Animation Studios. [3] [4] [5] He has been honored for his contributions to 3D computer graphics, including the 2019 ACM Turing Award.
Catmull was born Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1945 but moved to Utah when he was six months old. His parents both worked in education, and his early childhood was heavily influenced by the growing postwar culture of science and technology along with the early animation of Walt Disney.

Edwin E. (Ed) Catmull is co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios and a former President of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. He earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Computer Science (1970) and a PhD in Computer Science (1974) from the University of Utah.
Early in life, Edwin Catmull found inspiration in Disney movies such as Peter Pan and Pinocchio and dreamed of becoming a feature film animator. He even made primitive animation using so-called flip-books.
