   • Synovial sarcoma cannot be entirely excluded from the differential diagnosis if tumors have the morphological and clinical features of synovial sarcoma but do not bear an SS18-SSX fusion gene. In rare instances (estimated to be <5% of all cases), synovial sarcomas do not carry the characteristic SS18-SSX transcripts.
