Coordinates: 36°02′54″N 138°05′03″E. Lake Suwa (諏訪湖, Suwa-ko) is a lake in the Kiso Mountains, in the central region of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Geography. The lake is the source of the Tenryū River. It ranks 24th in lake water surface area in Japan. The cities of Suwa and Okaya and the town of Shimosuwa are located on the shores of Lake Suwa.
Lake Suwa is 759m above sea level and is the 24th largest lake in Japan with a circumference of just under 16km. Lake Suwa is the source of the Tenryu River which flows south through Iida-city to Pacific Ocean, and is famous for its spectacular gorge, where you can enjoy to take a boat ride and be serenaded by a singing boat woman.
Near to the center is a footbath (free) called "Kohan Koen Ashi-yu," where you can immerse your feet in the Kami-Suwa-onsen Hot Spring waters and relieve the weariness of your travels while viewing Lake Suwa-ko and the mountains of the Northern Alps.

Lake Suwa sits at an altitude of 759 meters above sea level and boasts a circumference of 16 km. It is the largest lake in Nagano and is situated in the middle of the Suwa Basin. Visitors can enjoy jogging, cruising on a ship, paddling a boat, fishing, and other activities all around the lake.
Lake Suwa is a tectonic lake located on the central highland of Honshu at an altitude of about 760 m above sea level. A single stream, Tenryu River, drains the lake water into the Pacific Ocean. The lake surface remains frozen for 2-3 months during winter.
Lake Suwa occupies the center of the Suwa region and there is plenty to do along its shores. A cycling and jogging path runs 16 kilometers around the lake, and bike rentals are available outside Suwa area stations and lakeside near Hotel Beniya.
