    Lake Suwa is the site of a natural phenomenon known as the "God's Crossing" (御神渡り, o-miwatari), large cracks that form in the winter across the surface of the frozen lake. So we Took 2 min taxi ride from kami suwa station to the swan cruise pier, 640 yen. Cheap! Short 25min swan cruise round the lake. Fairly nice. 920 yen per adult. Had lunch at cafeteria opposite the pier while waiting for our time ...

  4. Suwa-taisha Shrine is one of Japan's oldest shrines and host to the famous Onbashira pillar riding festival which runs once every six years. The shrine has four locations on opposite sides of the lake. Takashima Castle in Kamisuwa Onsen was known as the "floating castle" back in the 16th century when the lake came right up to the ramparts.
