Harry Binkley Harris Jr.[1] (born August 4, 1956) [2] is a retired Japanese-born American diplomat and retired U.S. Navy officer. He was the first American of Japanese descent to lead US Pacific Command and was the highest-ranking American of Japanese descent in U.S. Navy history during his time as commander. [3][4][5][6]

Aug 20, 2021 · Harry B. Harris Jr. is an American diplomat and former US navy officer. He was born in Japan but grew up in Tennessee and Florida. Harris Jr. was the first Japanese American to lead the U.S. Pacific Command in the Navy and was the highest-ranking Japanese American in the U.S. Navy.
Harris died March 19, 2009, in Los Angeles of complications of myelodsplasia. He was 86. He was survived by his wife, Patty; daughters, Joanne, a hairstylist and Suzanne; and a stepson, Michael Daruty, an NBC Universal exec.
