The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is an art museum in Kansas City, Missouri, known for its encyclopedic collection of art from nearly every continent and culture, and especially for its extensive collection of Asian art.
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art arose from the aspirations of two individuals who likely never met, who had vastly different lives, but who each imagined a public art museum for Kansas City and the surrounding region. Both died more than 100 years ago and neither saw the museum become a reality.
Recognized internationally as one of the finest general art museums in the United States, the Nelson-Atkins currently maintains collections of nearly 40,000 works of art. Our vast holdings provide the opportunity to create new connections and unique experiences at every turn.
Aug 15, 2024 · Kansas City, MO. Aug. 15, 2024– The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City presents a sweeping exhibition that details the enormous impact of Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, 1760-1869) on the art world.
Located in Kansas City, near where Thomas Hart Benton spent much of his life, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art has the most extensive public collection of Thomas Hart Benton works of art, including a bequest from Benton of 45 paintings and drawings.
