Musical Arts. The music program at Hackley promotes an appreciation for music as a discipline and as a vehicle for personal expression across all grade levels, providing students of all levels of interest and ability to hone their musical skills through participation in Band, Vocal, and Strings.
Feb 4, 2015 · The collection and its corresponding concert started in 1943 by Detroit musicians and artists to honor the legacy of Ms. Hackley, a former Detroit Public School teacher who went on to international fame as an artist and instructor, particularly for shedding light upon the significant musical riches of the African American culture.

The E. Azalia Hackley Collection of African Americans in the Performing Arts was established in 1943 when original materials were presented to the Detroit Public Library by the Detroit Musicians Association.
The E. Azalia Hackley Collection was created in 1943 in Detroit. It contains more than 600 pieces of sheet music published between 1799 and 1922 that show the contributions of blacks to the performing arts.
