Goulburn (/ ˈ ɡ oʊ l b ər n / GOHL-bərn) is a regional city in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia, approximately 195 kilometres (121 mi) south-west of Sydney and 90 kilometres (56 mi) north-east of Canberra. It was proclaimed as Australia's first inland city through letters patent by Queen Victoria in 1863.
History. In July 1920, the Goulburn community decided a public 'soldiers' memorial’ should be built to commemorate those who served in the First World War. Several years later, the foundation stone of the memorial tower was laid on 25 April 1924.

Remember the fallen. The 1925 Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum honours Goulburn’s sons and daughters who served in World War I. As well as being a moving tribute, it’s one of the country’s most spectacularly located memorials, perched on a rocky outcrop with views over the city and beyond.
The collection of artefacts allocated to the city of Goulburn after World War I is now housed in the adjacent cottage. It consists of personal items used by soldiers, memorabilia and medals. The local history room displays Goulburn's association with, and contribution to the two World Wars.
