Coach Impellizerri grew up playing baseball in the Northern Virginia area and went to Herndon High school. He played college baseball at Shepherd University and UVA at Wise.

Prior to his professional baseball career, Coach Knowles pitched for the University of Miami on a full baseball scholarship. An All-American, he helped the Hurricanes reach the College World Series twice, winning a CWS game against Cal State Fullerton as a freshman.
