Girls of the Sun is the sort of film that raises a number of questions both about the nature of feminist cinema and our expectations of it. Eva Husson ’s sophomore film focuses on a military unit of battle-hardened Kurdish women who seek retribution and freedom for Kurdistan against Islamic extremists.
Somewhere in Kurdistan, Bahar, commander of the “Girls of the Sun” battalion, is preparing to liberate her hometown from the hands of extremists, hoping to find her son who is held hostage.
