    is a 2021 American fantasy comedy film directed by Jason Reitman from a screenplay by Reitman and Gil Kenan. The film will star Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts reprising their roles from the first two films. It will be the sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) and the fourth film in the Ghostbusters franchise. The story follows a family moving back home to a small town where they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.

    A third Ghostbusters film had been in various stages of development following the release of Ghostbusters II in 1989. After Murray refused to commit to the project and after the death of fellow cast member Harold Ramis in 2014, production was delayed in favor of rebooting the series altogether. After the 2016 reboot bombed at the box office, Jason Reitman began development of a Ghostbusters film that will ignore the events of the reboot and would be a direct sequel to the original two films. The new cast members were announced by July 2019, while the members from the original films were signed on two months later.
