Feb 25, 2019 · In 1909 Owen School opened at 18 N. Maybelle Ave. as one of the first public schools in Tulsa, named for influential Tulsa hotelier and merchant Chauncey Owen.
Its location became the site of Tulsa’s first high school, named Tulsa High School. Another early church-operated school was built by the First Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888 at the corner of North Main and Brady Streets.

Lewis Perryman had several sons, including Legus, elected Principal Chief of the Creek Nation in 1887 and again in 1891; Josiah, the first postmaster of Tulsa; and George, who operated an immense ranch of 60,000 acres with more than 3,000 head of cattle.
