Sep 30, 2024 · Federal Glass Company was a popular glassware brand of the 20th century known for its proliferation of mid-century barware and beautifully crafted tableware. Famous for its frosted tumblers, raised patterns, and 22k gold embellishments, Federal began as a small pressed-glass company before expanding into Depression glass for decades.
Émile Gallé founded a glass design & decorating workshop in Meisenthal in 1873, having earlier (1866-69) served an apprenticeship there, at Burgun, Schverer & Cie, who continued to manufacture glass for him until he founded his own glassworks in Nancy in 1894.
Federal Glass was established in Columbus Ohio in 1900 by George and Robert J. Beatty, from the successful Beatty glass manufacturing family. In 1901 they advertised only tumblers, and in 1906 they were listed as manufacturers of bottles and jars (see Bottle Makers and their marks, by Toulouse).
