Jan 15, 2016 · Director Franziska Schlotterer does a good job of keeping the cast likable and avoiding the war while the characters try to exist during despicable times. The cast pulls off excellent performances under Scholtterer and makes the film a winner.
In one of the more unique Holocaust films ever shot, a young Jewish man being given shelter by a German husband and wife in the Black Forest must comply with an unusual request: the couple has been unable to conceive and the husband asks their “guest” to intercede on his behalf.
Set in WWII Germany, but that's just the backdrop (and some added stakes), but this film really tackles a lot of primal man/women and husband/wife relationships. Wonderfully acted, especially the wife played by Brigitte Hobmeier.
