Not to be confused with Flicking, which is a technique used to intentionally let go of a climbable object briefly.

    What is a ladder flick?

Ladder flicking is a very commonly exploited glitch on ladders and trusses, where the player jumps off of the top of a brick inside of a wall, instead of leaping off of the ladder or truss. It is very similar to Wallhopping, albeit without the need to be consistently timed and notably less precise. In a sense, ladder flicking is a precursor to Wallhopping.

Note that while you can flick off of both brick ladders and trusses, they are mechanically different from each other. For this page they will be assumed to be the same, despite trusses being much stranger in nature. The biggest difference between the two in terms of flicking is that trusses can only be flicked off of from the top, while ladders can be flicked off of from anywhere except the very bottom, where your legs are below the lowest brick. Trusses are much stranger in nature than ladders due to other quirks that are specific to trusses.

note that, this bottom flick rule for both ladders and trusses is nullified if there is a brick below the climbable object, since you can stand on that.

you can also flick off anywhere from a truss if there are spaced blocks like a ladder inside of the truss, since you can stand on that too. (If the creator didn’t cancollide false it)

Regular flicks are performed by quickly moving the mouse to the left or right, and pressing space as soon as the player is no longer in the climbing animation. These flicks are your standard flicks. Extremely common to see.

This works because the fast rotation clips the player inside of the wall for a moment, allowing the player to be grounded temporarily, and thus allowing them to jump, as the game sees them as grounded.

Shiftlock Snaps are performed by disengaging shiftlock, turning the camera enough that you would let go of the ladder if you were still in shiftlock, and then re-engaging shiftlock and pressing space a few frames later. These can be used to clear tricky flick techniques, for example, weaves or very big flick wraps. These also allow you to gain a bit more distance when crossing a gap from two trusses or ladders facing each other.

this is the kind of flick that I recommend, as it is notably more easily controllable than a regular flick.

Despite them being classified as slow, they can be done fast with enough practice.

if you do not turn enough when aligning your camera for the snap, you will leap off as the game will still consider you to be climbing.

While not technically considered a flick, bouncing is mechanically similar enough to the other two and has too little info to talk about for it to have its own page. This small little paragraph is all the info that can be given about bouncing.

When you move into the peak of a ladder or truss, You will be able to see yourself bounce up and down when you are there.

After going above the peak, you will fall back down below the peak. This is how normal Ladder Skimming works, by the way.

To Bounce, you simply move into the peak, and upon hitting the peak, you jump 1-2 frames later. It's that simple. If you do it too early, you'll leap off, if you do it too late, you won't jump.

Missing this jump by being late will simply make you fall back down onto the ladder or truss, and hence it's the least risky kind of flick.

While bounces can be used to clear very small wraps, they should not be relied on for this purpose. They are more useful for overcoming short walls, like the one shown in the example gif.
