Fitzwilliam College started as Fitzwilliam House in 1889, opposite the Fitzwilliam Museum along Trumpington Street. In 1958 the College moved to a new site along the Huntingdon Road, into accommodation designed by Denys Lasdun.

Fitzwilliam has, over the years, also become known for its beautiful gardens, which largely predate the college. [11] In 2008, an archaeological dig discovered on the college site the earliest clear evidence of settlement in Cambridge, the remains of a 3,500-year-old farmstead.
Our beautiful gardens are there for all – everyone can walk (or lounge!) on our grass, and an allotment provides fresh vegetables for our chefs. A lovely café offers an informal space where students, staff, and teaching academics can meet over coffee and homemade cake.
