Directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda and Walter Matthau, Fail Safe is a brilliant, if melodramatic, visualization of the horrendous decisions faced by military powers. While some have called it a spiritual prequel to Dr. Strangelove, there is no comedic undertone.
