Jul 11, 2010 · FIFA's World Cup 2010 Organising Committee divided the 32 qualifying teams into eight groups for the final tournament at the World Cup Final Draw, held on 4 December 2009 at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.
In the first round of the tournament finals, the teams competed in round-robin groups of four teams for points, with the top two teams in each group proceeding. These 16 teams advanced to the knockout stage , where three rounds of play decided which teams would participate in the final .
