Mar 24, 2020 · In 1992 the Ellison stores, after 104 years in business in Fort Worth, closed. In the 1990s Scott Tindall, who owned a record-storage company, restored the five Ellison buildings on the east edge of downtown.
In 1888, T. B. Ellison and Walter B. Maddox opened their first store on Fort Worth’s Main Street between Sixth and Seventh streets. They originally manufactured and sold mattresses. Later they expanded into furniture, draperies, and caskets.

Founded in 1888 as Maddox, Ellison & Co., the Fort Worth furniture firm became Ellison Furniture and Carpet Co. in 1905 when partner ‘IB. Ellison acquired a majority interest in the company. Ellison’s built this complex of three connected brick warehouses about 1911 next to the company’s mattress factory.
