Flashbacks dramatize Eddie's life and the rise and fall of his band, the Cruisers. The band gets its start at a club in Somers Point, New Jersey named Tony Mart's. Not adept at writing lyrics, Eddie hires Frank Ridgeway aka "Wordman" to be the band's keyboard player and lyricist, over the protests of band manager Doc Robbins and bassist Sal Amato.
- The band is dubbed. Eddie and the Cruisers didn’t actually play the songs, they were played by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. It was made to look pretty realistic though, since the band looked like they knew what they were doing.
- Wendell Newton never says a word. It was just one of those situations in which he didn’t have to say anything, he just had to be there. Those moments are sometimes more meaningful without a bunch of dialogue.
- Real high school students were used in the film. A lot of the actual high school students were used as extras in the movie and the high school was used for several shots as well.
- The high school used was actually a school for the mentally challenged. One of the characters states that they became a teacher at Vineland high school.

Apr 23, 2023 · We attended this very special “sold out” event last night, Saturday, April 22, 2023 at The Gateway Playhouse in Somers Point, New Jersey. It was the much anticipated Eddie and The Cruisers 40th Anniversary special event. This special event was co-promoted by the Somers Point Historical Society and Carmen and Nancy Marotta (Tony Mart’s fame).
