Nov 8, 2019 · After the satnav had directed us to a spot short of Down House, I drove on towards the village of Downe and found Darwin's house easily. The ground floor was rather gloomy and gave us an idea of a wealthy Victorian household I noted the study where Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species, the billiard room and the drawing room with its grand piano.
