This is very much the Hollywood version, with Oscar-winning actresses, sad violins on the score signaling serious drama, and a gorgeous setting, the English shore standing in for Connecticut.
When reporter Helen McNulty (Laura Dern) visits a South American country to write about a political revolutionary, she is kidnapped and forced to endure months of physical abuse.
