Mar 12, 2019 · Watering in leucojum bulbs. Firm soil round each bulb and then water thoroughly to settle the soil. Even with leaves these small bulbs are prone to drying out, so continue to water each week if conditions are dry. Depending on the variety and when you plant them, your snowflakes may flower in their first year of planting.

The snowflake, Leucojum, is much larger than its relation the snowdrop. It's easy to grow and multiplies freely in most gardens provided the soil is moist enough. It's been known to withstand flooding and standing water, so it's an ideal choice for bog gardens and pond-side plantings.
After planting, water well so that the soil above the bulbs settles. Leucojum bulbs will flower in the Spring. After the flowers die down, the plant can enjoy a warm rest period. You don't have to water too much during this rest period. Leaves will also die back and start to yellow.

Snails and slugs love to dine on snowflakes. If you see their slime trails in the area, it's a good idea to set out traps and baits in spring.

Oct 5, 2024 · Leucojum thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil that stays moist. Unlike many other bulbs, Leucojum can tolerate and even thrive in damp areas, making it an excellent choice for planting near ponds, streams, or in areas with heavy, moisture-retentive soil.
How to grow Cultivation. Plant dry bulbs, 8 to 10cm deep, in autumn, in any moderately fertile, humus-rich, reliably moist soil in full sun. Propagation. Propagate by seed, sown in autumn, in containers in a cold frame or separate offsets after the leaves have died down.
