The Skydio's camera produces a decent image, but it certainly isn't as advanced as many of the cameras that are cropping up on new consumer drones. That led to a middle-of-the-road score in our video quality testing. Overall, we think the Skydio's footage looks good. In favorable lighting conditions, it produces pretty good detail and a bright, ple...

The Skydio's incredible autonomous flight abilities are, to a large extent, balanced out by the lack of a physical controller and a short range of just 300 feet. This earned it a fairly average score in our flight performance testing. First the good: the Skydio's 13 obstacle avoidance sensors make it the best autonomous flying consumer drone by lea...

This is one area where the Skydio isn't exactly a standout. at 2.5 pounds with a single battery, this drone certainly doesn't feel heavy when carrying it around. However, the wide footprint of the drone, and its inability to fold up at all make it a bit cumbersome to take along with you. For skiing and biking ventures, the only real option is to la...

  3. Mar 22, 2018 · Part of that is because the R1 is only controllable via your phone (Android or iOS), which uses WiFi to control it and thus is range limited. You’ll want to download the free app and get the drone all registered. It only takes a few moments to complete this process. If you haven’t done so yet, you’ll also need to charge the batteries.

  4. In truth, the Skydio R1 is not really aimed at drone owners who enjoy flying a drone and being in control as the pilot. You can take off and land in tight spaces without the need to find open areas and this is why the R1 is being branded more of a camera than a drone.

  5. Apr 2, 2018 · There are options for manual controls if you desire, but the R1 eschews the bulky drone controller for a simple, single-handed control system on the Skydio app on your phone.

  6. Feb 4, 2019 · Skydio doesn't want you to have to worry about flying the R1. There's no remote control included in the box, or even available as an add-on, and the Nvidia TX1 processor that...
