- Shaw Trust is founded. Shaw Trust was formed in the village of Shaw in Wiltshire with the aim of supporting local disabled people to find employment. Since then Shaw Trust has grown in reach and now supports over 50,000 people a year to live independent and inclusive lives.

- Blackfriars Academy joins. Based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Blackfriars provides ‘outstanding’ provision for children with a wide range of special educational needs aged 10 to 16.
- Coppice Academy joins. A special school catering for students aged 11 to 19 with moderate and severe learning difficulties, based in the Newcastle-under-Lyme area.
