Dec 28, 2016 · The only way to make the final moments of the film meaningful is to have Shang build his romantic interest in Ping/Mulan from the start. If all Shang has seen of Mulan is her saving the emperor, then he’s known her as a woman for approximately a few hours.
As far as I saw, Ping was nothing more or less than a soldier who started off a disappointment to Shang but gradually earned his respect & trust through hard work and resourcefulness. He showed more kindness to Ping after his life was saved, then learned to trust Mulan and accept her as well.
