Mountaineer Field was constructed in 1980 on the former site of a golf course between the Law School and Medical School buildings after being bought out by Oliver Gordon the 2nd. The stadium's original cost was $22 million. Upon completion it had a seating capacity of 50,000.

The Diversified Energy Terrace is located in the north end zone of Mountaineer Field. Patrons have assigned seats outside in the open air but can enjoy access to the climate-controlled club with amenities that include a buffet meal, cash bar, limited bar style seating, flat screen TVs and indoor restrooms.
The Field Boxes include 66 semiprivate, premium sideline boxes that run the length of the East and West concourse. Each box comes equipped with padded chair back seats, two overhead heaters and an LED flat screen television broadcasting the in-game feed.
