I just stayed in Monteverde Vecchio for 2 weeks, further up the hill near San Giovannio di Dio. The Tram 8 (light rail) stops right in front of Trastevere Station and takes you directly to the city center; it ends at Piazza Venezia right in front of the Altare Della Patria.
