- Both FL reading anxiety and test anx-iety had a weaker correlation with FL performance as compared to other types of anxiety. Sep 26, 2024 · Therefore, this investigation aimed to explore learners’ English foreign language reading anxiety levels, reading techniques used, and the correlation between foreign language reading anxiety (FLRA) and reading strategies (RS).
The results obtained a moderate correlation of language anxiety and reading performance. The two low-evidence correlates had moderate-to-large and moderate effect sizes, with reading self-efficacy being moderate-to-large and reading strategy being moderate. Foreign language proficiency and age were significant moderators for some correlations.

Fifty-five independent samples with more than 10,000 participants were surveyed. It was found that the overall correlation between FL anxiety and FL performance was −.34 (p < .01).
