Owner Emilio Vitolo, a lifelong cook, brings the flavors of his native Naples to Manhattan with every dish. He can often be found at his favorite table near the front of the restaurant, greeting both longtime fans and first-time visitors with the same warmth and hospitality that has made Ballato’s a beloved New York City fixture.
Aug 8, 2010 · This restaurant doesn't take reservations so there is typically a line outside that moves fairly quick. The inside of the restaurant is very small and has 2 separate dining areas with pictures filling the walls of famous celebrities dining at Ballato's.

We decided to wait since they do not take reservations, calculating that the most we would probably have to wait would be about an hour. What we didn’t realize at that time was that they have a backdoor process for family, friends and regular diners.

Everything here was excellent, except for the 2 hour wait on a Friday night. They don't take reservations, so first come, first serve (though it seems they have a vip list of people who can just walk in). My advice is to come early or even late in the evening if you want to avoid a long wait.

Just like many NYC traditional eateries, Emilio Ballato’s is narrow and seating is limited. They don’t take reservations, so get there at the right time or you’ll have to wait. Service is quick, ambiance cozy and we felt like we were in an episode of The Sopranos.
