I'll take DS3's covenant system with two major differences-don't lock covenants to a specific area and add covenant items to more enemies loot pool (or to a more numerous enemy). DS3 didn't penalize you for leaving a covenant, allowed you to switch covenants from the menu, and didn't require you to be a member of a covenant to use the rewards.
As of BB and DS3, Especially BB I felt the covenant system was not that great. It was used merely as tool to connect certain players in multiplayer. DS3 had some neat rewards, but BB made then seem lame. I am really curious about Elden Ring’s system, if there is even one.
Jan 20, 2022 · No offical covenants have been confirmed as of now. Elden Ring may end up using a different term than "Covenant," as it is specific to Dark Souls lore, but, like previous FromSoftware games, there will very likely be a covenant system based off of multiplayer features.

Jan 18, 2022 · I can tell you right now that the Carians (astrologists) will most likely get a covenant since that's where the Enchanted Knight comes from, and so may their counterparts, the sorcerer academy which's name i forgot.
