  4. Lovely beach on the south coast of the Island. Wonderful sandy beach, but be aware of the rocks in the sea at high tide. Parking available at the top of cliff, but try to get here early if the weather is good as it does fill up quickly.

    Dogs love the breezy walk over the grassy downs at Compton, as well as racing through the tide along the beach. Beach restrictions apply mid-May to September along Compton Beach but you can walk with your dog between Brook Chine and Hanover Point all year round.

    The bridle paths over Afton, Compton and Brook Down are perfect for horses, being firm under foot and with wide vistas. There are numerous car parks close by for horse boxes.

    The off-road Tennyson Trail crosses National Trust land as it passes over Afton Down, Compton Down, Brook Down and Mottistone Down.   5. The beach is accessible via a car park at the top, which is run by the National Trust. From the car park, there are steps leading down to the beach. However, visitors should be aware of potential cliff falls, as the car park is slowly being eroded into the sea.

  6. Up from the beach, at the top of the cliff, is Hanover Point National Trust Carpark, an ice cream van and public toilets. You can also access the beach from Brook Chine Carpark and Compton Chine Farm Carpark. Compton is beautifully remote, and at low tide, the perfect place for a beach walk.
