Sep 30, 2023 · Knowing how to kill weeds in grass is made complicated by the sheer variety of weeds that can infiltrate your lawn. But rather than taking a one-product approach, sometimes tailoring your method depending on the weed can give you the best results.
- Using weed killer. By far the easiest way to get rid of grass is to use a herbicide. Glyphosate is easily the most effective and cost efficient grass killer available for use in the UK.
- Using natural methods.
- Dig it up. Even with power equipment and a lot of effort, digging up a lawn can be hard work. You risk exposing weed seeds that were deep in the soil, allowing them to germinate.
- Vinegar + dish soap. Vinegar contains acetic acid, simply mix some in a sprayer along with dish soap and spray it all over your lawn. Fair warning this method will prevent you from replanting in the same area as the acid in the vinegar will ruin your soil not only that but it may not fully kill the grass, it may need multiple applications.

- Roundup natural weed control ready to use. Best: Overall. Roundup is the top contender for the non-glyphosate range, leaning more heavily on a 43.1g/l pelargonic acid formula, which is chemically environmentally benign.
- Resolva xpress 24HR weedkiller. Best: For the scorched earth effect. We were sent the big blue 3l tank, which is a bit of a fiddle because you have to attach the nozzle yourself and the instructions aren’t entirely clear (use a trowel to flick the cap off or you’ll ruin your fingernails.
- Neudorff weedfree plus. Best: For superficial weeds. Another glyphosate-free entry, the Neudorff killed everything that we sprayed it on in spite of a reasonably sparse, yet tough spot that had more shade on it and was a bit ivy and bramble heavy.
- Weedol fast acting weedkiller. Best: For speed. The Weedol was also in a more paved and dandelion-heavy area with low lighting and did better than expected.
