I do respawns on but with modified respawn settings. On normal settings (survivor base as far as I know), respawns occur once every 3 days, and for .1 (10%) of the total population. This means you'll have a fully respawned area in 30 days.

The default settings for this is 10% respawn after 72 in-game hours. So if a cell has 500 Zombies in it and each day you kill 50, no Zombies will actually respawn. But if you leave the area for 72 hours, 50 Zombies will respawn there. After 720 hours the cell has 500 zombies again.
KalosTheSorcerer. • 2 yr. ago. I play with Zombie respawn off because of the jank that happens sometimes with it on. I prefer to clear out my land and have it safe and claimed instead of logging in one day and having a mob of 20 zombies spawn in a room in my house I didn't check since I logged in.
2.) No new zombies will ever spawn. 1.) Yes, they'll stay dead unless you install a specific mod that has a chance to bring them back to life. 2.) Depends on settings. Respawn is enabled by default in the survival and apocalypse game modes, I believe, but you can disable respawn in the sandbox mode so there are a fixed amount of zeds on the map

Jan 4, 2022 · Even with respawn disabled, more zombies will be added into cells until the cells have spawned their peak population amount (minus those you've already killed). They're not 'respawns.' The system just hasn't finished spawning all its available zombies until peak population day.
Jan 30, 2024 · By default, zombies do respawn in Project Zomboid; if you don't change the settings, 1% of the total zombie population in a cell (cell being a defined area) will respawn every 72 hours.
