  1. As an RAF Air Cadet you can gain qualifications that will help with your education and careers. Find out more about all of the training and skills we offer.

    • Learn to fly with the air cadets for free. The air cadets offer free pilot training in the UK for eligible people. You can join the air cadets at secondary school through your school combined cadet force (if your school has a section).
    • Air experience flights. Air experience flights usually take place several times in the year and consist of a 20-30min flight in a Grob 11 Tutor. During the flight, you will have the opportunity to fly the aircraft (if you want to).
    • Gliding courses and scholarships. Gliding is probably the cheapest and purest way of learning to fly. The Air Cadet Organisation offer gliding introductory courses (spend a day at the airfield and do about three flights).

A full PPL is 45 hours of flying training plus you can’t be awarded a PPL until you are aged 17 and you can’t fly powered aircraft solo under CAA rules until you are 16.

    Northwich Squadron meets every Tuesday and Friday, from 7:15PM – 9:30PM. For the first 18 weeks, new cadets will also meet on Sundays, between 10PM and 12PM. Once graduated from First Class, cadets will regularly parade on Tuesdays and Fridays, 7:00PM – 9:45PM.
